Stocks continue to gain ahead of Christmas break $JPM:xnys

  • U.S equity markets rallied extending the S&P 500’s third weekly gain in December to almost close the year back where it started at 1257.00
  • Stronger European markets helped the U.S higher along with better than expected weekly jobless claims numbers and a rise in consumer confidence
  • Stocks were helped higher with gains seen across financial stocks with strong gains seen in Bank of America, Morgan Stanley and Citigroup
  • DOW +0.51%, S&P500 +0.83% and NASDAQ +0.83%
  • U.S Treasuries rose for the first time in three days after yields had their biggest back to back daily gains since October after data showed the U.S economy grew less in the third quarter than previously expected
  • Crude Oil finished the session at USD $99.53 per barrel after briefly trading above $100.00 whilst gold is holding above USD 1600.00
