Markets end the week on a flat note $HGc1 $BAC $AA

  • Although the markets finished the session flat, the S&P500 still managed to record its best monthly advance since 1974. The major indexes spent most of the session in negative territory after weaker consumer and confidence figures did little to rally the market. However a small rally into the close saw the indexes close flat.
  • Although investors are buoyed by the recent European debt roadmap, investors are still wary of the large amount of Italian Government debt and their ability to meet proposed aggressive austerity measures
  • Qantas has made the international news headlines with the national carrier surprising the market with its snap grounding of all aircraft due to an industrial despite with three separate unions. After a marathon workplace hearing overnight, flights will resume this afternoon
  • Leadings the gains on the Dow was BAC, AA, HPQ and MRK which rallied 4.26%, 3.30%, 3.14% and 2.33% respectively
  • Dow Jones +0.18% S&P500 +0.04% NASDAQ –0.05%
  • EUR and AUD maintain levels above 1.4100 & 1.0650. Crude fell slightly down 0.7% and Gold was relatively steady overnight
